Security in Gensan airport intensified

KORONADAL CITY, Mar. 8 (PIA) -- Security of airports and shipping terminals in the region has been strengthened following reports of security threats in the region, an official of the Philippine National Police (PNP) said.

PNP 12 Director C/Supt. Gil Meneses said yesterday that they have improved police presence in important locations in the entire region, especially in ports and airports.

This, after a road-side bombing incident in the boundary of Datu Paglas and Pandad towns in Maguindanao last Tuesday that injured at least 4 people.

“Sa ating paliparan lalo na dito sa Gensan, nagdagdag na tayo ng mga tao sa ating mga checkpoints papasok sa airport. (We have added more policemen in our checkpoints entering the airports, especially here in Gen San.)” he said.

“We have also deployed bomb-sniffing dogs in the checkpoints as well as inside the airport,” he added.

He also said that Gensan Airport has acquired additional x-ray machine to facilitate entrance of passengers and increase the facility’s security capability.

Meneses assured the public that the security measures they are implementing will deter lawless elements from conducting terroristic acts in the region.

Security in ports and shipping terminals have also been intensified, according to Meneses.

“Before passengers will reach the wharfs, they have to pass by checkpoints where baggage are inspected. Sniffing dogs have also been deployed in the ports from time to time to help in keeping our ports secure,” he said.

Although reports of threats have not been confirmed we have to be ready at all times,” he said.

He also called on the public to report to law enforcers such as the military and police any suspected personalities and baggage left behind. (PIA 12)
