KORONADAL CITY, March 22 (PIA) -- Even without a request from the Departmetn of Education (DepEd). the city government of Koronadal will be hiring ten teachers to augment the need of teachers.
Koronadal LGU is also set to build six classrooms as its counterpart of an equal number that the national government will construct in the city this year.
Mayor Peter B. Miguel said, “there is deficiency of teachers, classrooms in the city,” which is why the LGU decided to hire teachers and committed to build the needed classroom.
He said DepEd has not requested the city government for additional teachers but added that he has not waited for the request because need for new teachers is “acute.”
Hiring of the new teachers will be done through the local school board.
The mayor, however, said the total of 12 classrooms for this year is not sufficient to fill in the present needs.
“In Koronadal we need almost 150 classrooms to accommodate the present number of enrolees,” he said. “We will need more when the Enhanced K+12 program will be implemented.”
Mayor Miguel also promised to support the need for educational materials of public schools in the city.
Last week, Koronadal LGU received P500,000 from Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri for the rehabilitation, repair of a school in Barangay Carpenter Hill, which was partially damaged during the flashflood that affected the city in September last year.
Mayor Miguel said, he is thankful for the assistance of Sen. Zubiri as it eases the burden of the city for the construction of additional classrooms for the school children. (PIA 12)
