KORONADAL CITY, Aug. 4 (PIA) -- Local government units in Region 12 have collected a total of P7,339,984.93 from fees on mining and related activities in the first semester of 2011.
Director Constancio Paye Jr. of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (MGB-DENR 12) said, the regional office also collected a P649,361.10.
“The regional office’s income was derived from payment of fees on mining rights, applications, permits, certification and others,” Paye said.
Bulk of the collection from the LGUs come from the sand and gravel quarry operations, he added.
Of the four provinces in the SOCCSKSARGEN Region, South Cotabato contributed 41 percent of the total amount collected from January to June this year.
South Cotabato’s mine-related revenues in the last six months amounted to P3,029,715.35.
Paye said South Cotabato has been a top collector of such fees “because of its effective monitoring system.”
