Tagum gov’t employees hone skills in Larong Pampalakasan
CITY OF TAGUM, DAVAO DEL NORTE, July 25 -- Employees of the city government here has engaged in a friendly competition and honed their skills through different sports disciplines in the continuation of Larong Pampalakasan 2012.
Edna J. Quilario, head of the City Human Resource Management Office (CHRMO), said the activity aims to bond city hall employees, saying that “all work and no play makes all of us dull.”
This event, which is one of the incorporating events of the city’s celebration of the Civil Service Month come September, kicked off last July 20, aiming to foster camaraderie and develop the spirit of sportsmanship among the workers in public service.
Sports events include basketball (junior division), bowling, badminton (men and women’s doubles), dart (men’s doubles and women’s singles), chess, table tennis (men and women’s singles), 5-kilometer marathon and "larong Pinoy."
City Councilor De Carlo “Oyo” Uy led the opening ceremony of the basketball tournament at the Rotary Gym, where the players of Cluster 5, led by cluster head P/Supt. Abraham C. Catre of Civil Security Unit, and Cluster, 1 led by cluster head Delia B. Dela Cruz of the mayor’s office, played in the inaugural game.
The CHRMO will also hold the cheerdance competition on September 6 at the Atrium of the New City Hall of Tagum, where different clusters shall compete.
For this Larong Pampalakasan, different offices are grouped into different clusters where they are expected to work with each other to carry out the goals of each team.
Prizes at stake for this sports event amounted to almost P333,000. The Larong Pampalakasan is now on its third year, as conducted by CHRMO.
