Gov't to enforce strict gun ban during ARMM voters registration
DAVAO CITY, June 20 (PIA) -- Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Sec. Jesse Robredo said that strict gun ban policy will be implemented on July 9 to July 18 during the general registration of voters in during the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM).
During the ARMM Convention on Local Governance held in Davao City this morning, Robredo said there will be no exemption in policy implementation. He added that those caught violating the gun ban should not seek the help of government officials as those found interfering with policy implementation may be removed from service.
“Ang pinapakiusapan ay matatanggal. Maawa po kayo sa pinapakiusapan ninyo (Government officials interfering in behalf of violators shall be removed from office; take pity on them)," Robredo told the convention participants, which included officials and civic leaders of ARMM.
Robredo appealed to ARMM constituents to unite behind the crusade of the national government for a clean and orderly registration, which he said is key for the success ARMM elections to held on May 13, 2013.
A June 15 press release from the Commission on Elections said that the voters list in the ARMM was “annulled” because of the “presence of hundreds of thousands of illegal and fictitious registrants in the ARMM which needs to be deleted.” (PIA-XI/Jeanevive Duron-Abangan)
