Supplemental feeding program benefits 551 children in Kiangan
KIANGAN, Ifugao, June 21 (PIA) -- A total of 551 day-care children benefited from the supplemental feeding program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development here, implemented by the municipal government, as of the first quarter of this year.
This was learned from Frances Alindayo, the designated municipal nutrition officer, who made the assessment report, saying that the program implemented in all day care centers here helped much in the improvement of the nutritional status of the children.
She related that during the start of the feeding program, 40 children were underweight and one was severely underweight, but after three months of daily feeding, the nutritional status of 26 children became normal, and after six months of feeding, the nutritional status of 39 children became normal.
Out of the 41 underweight and severely underweight day care children, only two remained underweight, although there was improvement in their weights.
Alindayo said that they are continuing the feeding program for this school year to benefit the children and the additional day care enrollees. (JDP/DBC-PIA CAR, Ifugao)
