City observes National Disaster Consciousness Month in July

ILIGAN CITY, Lanao del Norte, July 6 -- Community cooperation is crucial to prevent massive destruction from natural calamities.

Thus said Arnel Bendijo, Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer (DRRMO) of the city, during the flag raising program held at the city hall, in line with the observance of National Disaster Consciousness Month in July.

Bendijo said, the place we call home will fall into serious deterioration if residents would not take any action to preserve it. He added that our planet, our place, our one and only home will fall into deterioration to a point that will affect the way we live in this world.

This month, the Iligan City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (ICDRRMC) sponsors the following activities relevant to disaster risk reduction:

July 1, mass, motorcade around the city thoroughfare, display of rescue equipment, a joint effort with the Philippine Red Cross in their celebration of the Blood Donor’s Month in July, with Bloodletting activity.

July 2-3, Iligan City’s participation in the PDNA-DaLA (Post Disaster Need Assessment-Disaster Assist and Lost Assessment) Regional review in Cagayan de Oro City.

July 4, Regional Evaluation of Iligan’s entry into the Gawad Kalasag Awards, at the office of the DRRM Office, Iligan City.

July 4-6, Mainstreaming Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) in the Comprehensive Land Use Plan – CLUP Review.

July 10-12, Iligan City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Planning Workshop at Crystal Inn, Barangay San Miguel, Iligan City, which will be participated by concerned offices and organizations.
