BFAR latest shellfish bulletin retained MisOcc among unsafe areas
CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Misamis Oriental, July 26 (PIA) -- Misamis Occidental is still included among areas that are positive of the paralytic shellfish poison.
The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) released its latest laboratory result last July 17, and have declared the following areas positive of red tide toxins: Dumanguillas Bay in Zamboanga del Sur; Murcielagos Bay in Zamboanga del Norte; Matarinao Bay in Eastern Samar; Balite Bay; Mati Davao Oriental; and coastal waters of Milagros in Masbate.
BFAR 10 Regional Director Visa Tan-Dimerin said all types of shellfishes from these areas should not be eaten.
Dimerin said advised the public that fish caught in these areas should be thoroughly cleaned and its internal organs such as gills and intestines removed before cooking.
She also noted that Taguines Lagoon in Benoni, Camiguin continue to return good results from their regular monitoring and is declared among other provinces to be free from the toxic red tides.
Other areas declared by BFAR to be free from toxic red tides includes coastal waters of Cavite, Las Piñas, Parañaque, Navotas, Bulacan and Bataan coastal waters (Mariveles, Limay, Orion, Pilar, Balangan, Orani, Abucay and Samai) in Manila Bay; coastal waters of Bolinao, Anda, Alaminos and Wawa, Bani in Pangasinan; Masinloc Bay in Zambales; Coastal waters of Mandaon in Masbate; Juag Lagoon in Matnog, and Sorsogon Bay Bay in Sorsogon; Honda and Puerto Bays in Puerto Princesa City, and Inner Malampaya Sound in Taytay, Palawan.
Shellfishe along the coastal waters of Pilar, President Roxas, Panay, Roxas City, Ivisan and Sapian in Capiz; E.B. Magalona, Pontevedra, Pulupandan, Valladolid, Talisay City, Silay City, Bacolod City, Hinigaran, Cadiz City, Victoris City, Bago City, Binalbagan and San Enrique in Negros Occidental; Irong-irong, Maqueda and Villareal Bays in Samar; Ormoc, Sab Pedro, Cancabato and Carigara Bays in Leyte; Biliran water in Biliran Province; Hinatuan, Bislig and Lianga Bays in Surigao del Sur were also declared as clean and safe for consumption.(PIA 10)
