Cagayan De Oro City adopts Gwangyang, Korea as sister city
CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Oct. 25 -- The City of Cagayan de Oro continues to forge sistership ties with other cities in the world.
The 16th City Council during its regular session ast October 23 presided over by Vice Mayor Caesar Ian E. Acenas approved a resolution adopting the City of Gwangyang, Korea as a Sister City.
Legislators authorized Mayor Vicente Emano to enter into and sign the City Friendship Agreement by and between the two cities.
Both Mayor Emano and Gwangyang Mayor Sungwoong Lee will declare the official friendship of the two cities by the signing of the agreement, which is expected to improve mutual development and prosperity based upon close cooperation between the Republic of the Philippines and the Republic of Korea.
Pursuant to the agreement, both parties will facilitate economic exchanges and cooperation in trade, investment, port logistics and business and explore new areas of cooperation in education, culture, tourism and sports through supporting friendly exchanges.
The cities of Cagayan de Oro and Gwangyang will likewise make strong effort to ensure that the mutual exchanges will bring sustainable and substantial benefits to each other through active cooperation from both governments and private sector participants
Although the mutual exchanges can be constrained by each party’s budget and legislative situations, the friendship agreement stipulates that the two cities will provide the same level of support to each other based upon the principle of mutual equality. (Lorebeth C. Requiroso/CdeOSP/PIA10)
