Lanao del Norte vies for national tourism award
TUBOD, Lanao del Norte, Sept. 20 -- Lanao del Norte is competing for the prestigious Pearl Award by the Association of Tourism Officers of the Philippines (ATOP) and the Department of Tourism (DOT) for best tourism practices.
The province is competing in two categories of the competition - Culture and Arts (provincial level) and Sports and Wellness (provincial level).
This is the second year that Lanao del Norte will be joining the national competition designed to evaluate the tourism initiatives and innovations of local government units.
Last year, the province won the top spot in Culture and Arts category for its Araw ng Lanao del Norte festivities and third place in Sports and Wellness category for the hugely successful Lanao del Norte International Motocross Championships.
“This competition is a great platform for us to showcase the beauty and peacefulness of Lanao del Norte. We are also proud of our international motocross competition that made the province – The Motocross Capital of the Philippines,” said Tourism Officer Minda Regis.
On September 14, 2012, the final judging was held at the Diliman Preparatory School, Commonwealth Avenue, Diliman, Quezon City.
Lanao del Norte was represented in by Provincial Tourism Officer Minda Regis for the Culture and Arts category and by Information Officer Vincent Labial in Sports and Wellness.
Other provincial finalists in Culture and Arts are Compostela Valley, Laguna, and Capiz. Also competing with Lanao del Norte in the Sports and Wellness category are the provinces of La Union and Compostela Valley.
The awarding ceremony is set on October 4, 2012 at Dakak Park and Beach Resort, Dapitan City, Zamboanga del Norte during the 13th ATOP National Convention. (VNL/PIO-LDN/PIA10)
