Mayor eyes 16-ha lot in Cagayan de Oro as relocation site
CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, July 13 -- A 16-hectare lot in Barangay Pagatpat is being considered as another resettlement site by the local government here for calamity victims.
This, following the pronouncement of the Habitat for Humanity Philippines (HFHP) that it has enough funds to construct 6,000 houses for victims in Cagayan de Oro City.
During the bricklaying of the Mahogany Village at the Calaanan relocation site, Habitat chief operating officer Leonilo Escalada said the HFHP is willing to construct more houses for tropical storm Sendong survivors if the city provides the site for the project.
Mayor Vicente Emano said this will give a chance to more calamity victims to own their own houses.
“Atong paningkamotan nga mapalit ang maong yuta sa ubos lamang nga presyo samtang ani-a pa dinhi sa atong dakbayan ang Habitat for Humanity aron pagmugna og mga balay alang sa atong mga igsoong biktima sa baha. Sayang kaayo ang ilang gitanyag nga kahigayonan kon dili nato kini pahimuslan (We will ensure the purchase of the land at an affordable cost while HFHP is still in the city to build houses for those flood survivors)," the mayor said in a press statement.
