PNoy issues Proclamation 459 declaring the regular and special holidays of 2013

OROQUIETA CITY, Misamis Occidental, Sept. 2 (PIA) -- President Benigno S. Aquino III has issued Proclamation No. 459 declaring the regular and special holidays to be observed in 2013.

Consisting of 10 regular holidays, three special non-working days, two additional special non-working days and one special holiday for schools only, Proclamation 459 was signed by the President, last Aug. 16, and released yesterday, Sept. 1.

These 10 regular holidays are as follows: New Year’s Day, January 1 (Tuesday), Maundy Thursday, March 28, Good Friday, March 29, Araw ng Kagitingan, April 9 (Tuesday), and Labor Day, May 1 (Wednesday).

Independence Day, June 12 (Wednesday), National Heroes Day, August 26 (Last Monday of August), Bonifacio Day, November 30 (Saturday), Christmas Day, December 25 (Wednesday), and Rizal Day, December 30 (Monday).

The three (3) special non-working days are: Black Saturday, March 30, Ninoy Aquino Day, August 21 (Wednesday), and All Saints Day, November 1 (Friday).

Likewise, the two (2) additional special non-working days are December 24 (Tuesday), the day before Christmas and December 31, also a Tuesday, the last day of 2012, while the special holiday for schools only is February 25, during the EDSA Revolution Anniversary.

Meanwhile, the proclamations declaring national holidays for the observance of Eid’l Fitr and Eidul Adha or the start and end of Ramadan shall be issued after the approximate dates of the Islamic holidays have been determined.

The declaration will be in accordance with the Islamic calendar (Hijra) or the lunar calendar, or upon Islamic astronomical calculations, whichever is possible or convenient and it would be the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF) who shall inform the Office of the President on which day the holiday falls.

On the other hand, the President has enjoined the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) to promulgate its implementing guidelines for the holidays. (RCA/PIA-Misamis Occidental)
