LTO Ozamiz strengthens IEC campaign on wearing of helmet by motorcycle drivers
OZAMIZ CITY, Misamis Occidental, Aug. 21 (PIA) -- The Land Transportation Office, here has strengthened its Information, Education and Communication (IEC) Campaign on the wearing of helmets by motorcycle drivers.
This was explained by Salome Zapatos, Officer-in-Charge of LTO-Ozamiz, when she attended the People’s Hour, during the regular session of the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) recently.
Zapatos, said they have sent a letter-request to the City Mayor for some 10 lady traffic officers from the city government to be deputized by LTO in the implementation of traffic laws in the city.
Meanwhile, Zapatos was asked by some of the SP members regarding other violations of the motorists and why the LTO only focuses on those who do not have licenses and those who have failed to renew them.
As pointed-out by SP Member Roberto Cantago, there are a lot more concerns that need to be addressed, such as the use of accessories of the motorcycles, so that violators can be penalized.
Cantago cited the very loud noise, over-speeding, as well as, the black smoke belching of these motorcycles which remained unchecked contrary to what has been done in Cagayan de Oro City, where these concerns are being tackled by the LTO in the area, and why no such thing is done in Ozamiz.
Also asked by SP Member Mario Ferraren was the ruling on the “Habl-habal” or single motorcycles without side-cars that carries up to four (4) passengers, when the ruling on the use of helmets only specifies two (2) passengers. (JLCanumay/RCA/CIO/PIA-Misamis Occidental)
