LGU Calamba employees,barangay volunteers undergo disaster preparedness training

OROQUIETA CITY, Misamis Occidental, Aug. 21 (PIA) -- Employees and barangay volunteers of the local government unit here have undergone a three -day training in disaster predeparedness.

The said training was conducted by the Misamis Occidental Search and Rescue Team (MOSART) headed by Gain Paul De Barras, the Provincial DRRM Officer.

During the training, participants were made to understand their responsibilities as rescuers, while they were also taught how to handle, operate and use the handheld radio transceivers in times of emergency and disasters, such as, floods, fire, vehicular accidents, etc.

The capability of the participants to do rescue activities were also assessed during the training through the conduct of role plays and disaster situations presented in a drama depicting their actual disaster experiences, DE Barras said.

Along this line, the trainees thanked MOSART for the opportunity to undergo such training in rescue operations that has equipped them with the needed skills in undergoing vigilance work in the communities.

As recalled, the Misamis Occidental Provincial Government has set aside P1.0 million for the continuation of the improvement of Mateo C. Matunog Multipurpose and Evacuation Center in Calamba, this year.

The pre disaster- preparedness project aims to provide support to the disaster mitigation measures in the area, De Barras added. (PDNano/RCA/CIO/PIA-Misamis Occidental)
