Mindanao cultural events get support from NCCA Grants Program

OROQUIETA CITY, Misamis Occidental, Aug. 21 (PIA) -- At least 10 out of 25 or 40 percent of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCAA) Grants Programs implemented from July to August, this year, were done by the tribal groups in Mindanao.

This was revealed by Felipe De Leon, Jr., Chairperson of NCCA, who said the date the event, the sponsoring groups and location of the events were as follows:

July 20 - School of Living Traditions on Higa-onon Mat Weaving, Phase 1, Sayawan Women’s Organization, in Sayawan, Impasug-ong, Bukidnon.

July 21 - School of Living Traditions on Higa-onon Mat Weaving, Mandu United Women’s Organization, Mandu, Imbatug, Baungon, Bukidnon.

July 23 - School of Living Traditions on Subanen Sapyay (Rattan) Mat Weaving, Pigsalabukan Glebon Subanen de Bantal, Bantal Bayog, Zamboanga del Sur.

July 23 - School of Living Traditions on Subanen Clothing and Embroidery, Thindegan, Dlibon Subanen, Purok 3, Poblacion, Lakewood, Zamboanga del Sur.

July 25 - School of Living Traditions on Subanen Dances and Musical Instruments Playing, Phase 1, Phesalabuhan Dlibon Subanen Association of Guinicolalay, Guinicolalay, Dinas, Zamboanga del Sur.

July 25 - School of Living Traditions on Beads-Making, Phase 1, Pekpungunan Lebun Subanen, Sito Caragayan, Josefina, Zamboanga del Sur.

July 25 - School of Living Traditions on Subanen Misic and Oral Traditions, Phase 1, Pikhumpongan Dlibon Subanen, Inc., Purok Waling-Waling, Napolan, Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur.

July 25 - School of Living Traditions on Maguindanao Kulintang-Playing, Phase 1, Barangay Lower Campo Islam, Barangay Lower Campo Islam, Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur.

July 27-29 - Methepuk: Western Mindanao Visual Arts Congress, Zamboanga Arts Center, Dao, Pagadian City and Aug. 14-16, Sayaw Mindanaw, Duaw Dabaw, Davao City.

Meanwhile, De Leon said the NCCA has just announced the Aug. 30, 2012, deadline for submission of project proposals requesting funding assistance from NCCA for implementation next year.

This assistance is given, through the National Endorsement Fund for Culture and the Arts (NEFCA) of the NCCA Grants and Institutional Programs, particularly, the NCCA Outreach Program, Resource Persons’ Bureau and Technical Assistance Program.

Anchored on the NCCA vision of: “Filipino culture as the well-being of national and global well-being,” the grants are aimed at establishing culture as a pillar of sustainable development to advance creativity and diversity of artistic expression to promote a strong sense of nationhood and pride of being Filipino through culture and arts, De Leon said.

The proponents of the grants include the non-government and peoples’ organizations (NGO’s/PO’s), indigenous people’s group/cultural communities/IP organizations, individuals/local government units/government organization/institutions, state universities/colleges and public schools.
