HINGYON, Ifugao, June 17 (PIA) -- The Ladies Club of the Police Regional Office-Cordillera Region distributed 100 school bags and donated 60 arm chairs to school children in Bangtinon Elementary School in Barangay Bangtinon, a depressed barangay here.

Another 250 bags with school supplies were distributed to children in Baguinge Elementary School in Kiangan town.

Mrs. Arlyn Magalong, wife of Cordillera Police Regional Director PCSupt. Benjamin Magalong, and the Club Coordinator, said this activity is part of their outreach program to help school children especially in far flung barangays in the region. “We had been going around the different provinces in the Cordillera to distribute these things as our way of helping parents so that they will no longer be hard up in buying the said supplies for their kids,” she said.

Barangay Captain Martin Palguitang Sr. thanked the PNP ladies club for the help they extended to the children adding that their visit to this barangay is an indication that there are still people who cares for the welfare of their fellowmen who are in need.

Moreover, Schools Division Superintendent Estella Carino, District Supervisor Anthony Galangi and School head Janeline Abella were very grateful for the said donations which they believe will inspire the children to do their best in their studies.

On the other hand, parents Mary Bangaona, 29 and Myrna Licubon, 34, said that they are glad and grateful for the said assistance which they consider as a blessing since it is a big help to them as they need not spend for school bags of their children .

PI Jeffrey Vicente, the Chief of Police here said that activities like this will create a closer relationship between the people and the PNP.

Aside from the Brigada Eskwela which the PNP participates annually, our constant interaction with the schools and the community will make the people feel that we are not only peace keeping officers but we are their partners in responding to their economic situation, Vicente said.
