DOST opens applications for the junior level science scholarships
ZAMBOANGA CITY, Aug 3 (PIA) -– The Department of Science and Technology, through Science Education Institute, announced that their office is now accepting applications for the Junior Level Science Scholarships (JLSS).
DOST-SEI offers two JLSS program: RA7687, which is open to poor but talented students, and the Merit scholarship.
Qualifiers will be selected based on their performance in the 2012 JLSS scholarship examination on September 22.
Any regular third year college student of AY 2012-2013, who are currently enrolled in any of the identified institutions and S&T priority courses may apply for the scholarship program.
Applicant must be a natural-born Filipino citizen; has a general weighted average of 83 percent or better with no failing grade in his/her 1st and 2nd year; not a recipient of any other government or private scholarship; no pending application as immigrant in any foreign country; resident of the municipality for the last four years; and of good moral character and in good health.
Deadline for filing the application is on August 24, 2012.
Among the privileges that JLSS scholars will be receiving are free tuition fee, book allowance, monthly stipend and post-graduation clothing allowance. Transportation allowance will also be provided to those studying outside of their home province.
Applicants for JLSS scholarship programs must submit to the nearest DOST Regional Office or Provincial Science and Technology Centers the following documents: DOST-SEI information sheet; certificate of year level; certificate of good moral character; statement of parent that applicant has no pending application as immigrant to any other country; health certificate from a qualified physician; two recent (1”x1”) pictures; photocopy of birth certificate; and certified true copy of grades or transcript of records.
With the aforementioned documents, JLSS-RA 7687 applicants must also submit certificate of residency, family information questionnaire, parent’s 2011 income tax return/W2/employment contract/BIR certificate of tax exemption/barangay certificate of non-employment, and three consecutive months of electric bill for 2012.
