PAGADIAN CITY, Aug 7 (PIA) -- Landslide survivors in Brgy. Cumarom, Mindsalip are undergoing treatment at Midsalip Municipal Infirmary Hospital.

Mayor Leonida Ancap in an interview said Soledad Mandao, 46, and her son Jomar, 11 were brought to the hospital after they sustained injuries in various parts of their bodies due to the landslide that occurred at 6:30 p.m. on August 2.

"In the afternoon of Thursday, Brgy. Cumaron has experienced continuous heavy rains," Ancap said

Meanwhile. the dead bodies of the Mandao's husband Miguel Sr. and children Miguel Jr., Marilou and Belmar were all buried a day after the incident.

Ancap believed that it was a devastating tornado that hit the mountain where the family lived.

“While Soledad was breastfeeding her son, they heard a loud sound forcing them to go out but a huge waves of water and mud hit their house,” Ancap said, quoting Soledad.

She said family members of Mandao were swept away by the flood water and they were found dead early in the morning due to severe injuries in the different parts of their bodies.

The municipal government gave a decent burial to the dead bodies, while the survivors were given medical assistance.

Ancap said the local government promised to shoulder the hospital bills and medicine needs of the victims, while they are still undergoing treatment. (GCC/PIA9-Zambosur)
