MAASIN CITY, Southern Leyte, June 13 (PIA) -- A local investor has renovated the old market in Maasin City through a private-public partnership (PPP) agreement with the city government.

The Brodeth family, a home-grown investor, managed to change the landscape by constructing a Mediterranean-themed building, its façade dominating the scene in every perspective view.

The whole structure that sits in more or less 2,000 square meters opened last week coinciding with the opening of classes, adding a new face to this city.

Its central section was a hardware shop for construction materials. Spaces around it were leased for other businesses such as a bakeshop, restaurant, a pizza outlet, bridal shop for wedding and a cellular phone store.

Across the main building was the pharmacy, Brodeth family’s original business concern, plus a host of other items displayed in a recast merchandising outlet named BOSS, short for Brodeth One Stop Shop.

At about this time last year, a memorandum of agreement was signed between the city government and the Brodeth family for the planned makeover of the old market area.

In a brief chat with local media then, Titing Brodeth, the owner, said it was their way of paying back to the city where they grew, as they have been holding branches of their business in other parts of the region, like Baybay and Ormoc cities.

The project began right after the city fiesta last year, as makeshift stalls were moved to their new site in the reclaimed portion of the city to give way for the construction. (EOT/MMP-PIA8 Southern Leyte)
