Drug symposiums highlight crime prevention week in Southern Leyte
MAASIN CITY, Southern Leyte, Sept 3 (PIA) -- The Philippine National Police-Southern Leyte Police Provincial Office (PNP-SLPPO) will hold drug symposiums as one of the highlights in celebrating National Crime Prevention Week from September 1 to 7.
Police Senior Inspector Ariel Nuñez said the celebration kicked off this morning, September 3, at the city’s gymnasium discussing drug-related topics during the flag-raising ceremony of the Maasin City hall employees led by Police Provincial Director Allan Cuevillas.
A motorcade around the city proper followed with PNP personnel and other government agencies involved.
Nuñez said PNP stations in some municipalities will conduct a “pulong-pulong” discussing anti-illegal drugs such as in Anahawan, San Ricardo, Bontoc, Macrohon and Malitbog.
While drug symposiums was also set at different public schools like the Sothern Leyte State University and other school campuses highlighting drug-related concerns with PNP personnel concerned as speakers.
In Maasin City, police authorities will conduct a Crime Prevention Drive at Barangay Combado with the residents as the paticipants on September 4, while on the next day, a bloodletting activity will be held at Abago Covered Court in coordination with the Red Cross Southern Leyte Chapter.
He added that crime prevention information drive will be tackled to be aired live at radio station DyDM on September 6 and culmination activity of the week-long crime prevention celebration will be held at Camp Bantug, SLPPO at Asuncion, Maasin City.
Every first week of September of every year is declared as the National Crime Prevention Week pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 461 dated August 31, 1994. All government agencies and instrumentalities of government are enjoined to evolve and implement projects and activities that focus on prevention as an approach in combating criminality.
This years’ celebration adopts the theme “Crime Prevention, May Magagwa Ako,” complemented by the proactive slogan, “Knock out crime!” (EOT/RSC-PIA8, Southern Leyte)
