MAASIN CITY, Southern Leyte, July 6 (PIA) -- “The important tangible outputs of being in the government service is performance.” This is how Department of Health (DOH)-representative to Southern Leyte underscored the importance of performance in government.
Emphasizing that the achievement of the different programs of the government depends on the performance of every government employee, Dr. Feliciano John Matibag of the DOH here, discussed the topic on how to respond to the immediate needs of the people during the nutrition month.
“We should act together to address the problems such as malnutrition using the resources given by the government, among others concerned,” he said.
Matibag informed the participants composed of DepEd public health nurses, Provincial Nutrition Committee (PNC)-Technical Working Group members, and DepEd employees that, ““each one of us has his or her own role in the nutrition advocacy campaign,” he said.
In his opening message during the program, Monday, Matibag cited the island municipality of Limasawa, saying that “the small island-municipality performed exemplary health practices that gave them several nutrition awards.”
One of the objectives of the nutrition program is to promote backyard gardening, which is attainable at the local level, “in order to increase livelihood income, while improving food security not only in the province but throughout the country,” Matibag disclosed.
“The demand and supply will determine the market and with higher demands, we can expect more reasonable prices of prime commodities,” Matibag said, urging the participants, including DepEd nurses, from different municipalities in the province to implement the same at their areas of responsibility.
He said that when we provide food such as vegetables, the target is to help the children, and pregnant and lactating mothers.
“At the end of the day, we can reduce the burden of malnutrition, responsive to the needs of the Filipinos and protect them with the endeavors for food security and sustainable development as one of the thrusts of the Aquino administration,” Matibag said.
