Coconut authority to establish 19 coco nurseries in Southern Leyte
MAASIN CITY, Southern Leyte, Aug 8 (PIA) -- The Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) in tandem with19 local government units will establish coconut nurseries throughout the province.
"The national coconut government agency launched the mass production of coconut seedlings under the Coconut Seedling Dispersal Program (CSDP) in coordination with the 18 municipalities and the city of Maasin,” PCA Provincial Officer Manuel Sembrano said.
Sembrano said each coconut nursery to be established in every municipality will all raise some 10,000 coconut seedlings.
CSDP nurseries are already established in most municipalities in the province except for Pintuyan, San Ricardo and Limasawa.
The officer also said the coconut seedlings to be raised shall be distributed to all interested farmers for free, especially among beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps).
He said PCA also started in the province another coconut propagation activity, the Participatory Coconut Planting Program where government pays farmers P14 per coconut seedling produced and P16 each for every coconut seedling planted.(PIA8, SoLeyte)
