BORONGAN CITY, EASTERN SAMAR, June 5 (PIA) -- Congressman Ben P. Evardone urged members and officers of Parents and Teachers Community Associations (PTCAs) to monitor the utilization of the Monthly Operation Expenses (MOOE) of public schools in their locality.

According to Evardone, parents can also suggest or recommend to the school principal how to spend the monthly school budget.

“The Officers and members of the PTCAs can suggest to their school principal any priority expenditure which could be taken from the MOOE,” Cong. Evardone stressed. “They should be mindful that the MOOE is not an additional allowance of the principal, hence, they should expect transparency in the budget allocation and utilization,” he added.

The Congressman said this in time of the school opening today as he also cited to obtain supplemental budget for the benefit of the pre-elementary teachers. He informed that at present, several pre-elem teachers are getting a measly P3,000 monthly pay on contractual basis. The supplemental budget that he wishes for might proceed from the sin taxes, since this is supposed to be government’s extra income, he said.

Meanwhile, the first day of classes at the Eastern Samar National Comprehensive High School (ESNCHS) went very smoothly. “After all, the Brigada Eskwela was very well assisted by the stakeholders in the locality,” Principal Teresa Siguan bragged in an interview.

It was also noticed that a PNP personnel assisted in the entry of the more than 3,000 high school students who trooped to the school for the first day of classes. Information has it that the PNP Provincial command has directed the assignment of their personnel on orders from higher leadership.(PIA-Eastern Samar/aen)
