CATBALOGAN CITY, Samar, Feb 14 (PIA) -- Land Transportation Office (LTO) District Officer Ruben Mancol announced that it will strictly enforce the use of early warning device (EWD) to owners of motor vehicles.

In the radio program, Bantay Probinsya aired at DYMS, Mancol announced that it will strictly implement the law which has been in effect since December 2011.

“We want to promote road safety and protect road users from the impact of road crashes due to defying this provision,” Mancol said in an interview with anchor Rommel Rutor, Wednesday.

LTO enforcers observed that motorists openly defy this road safety device. As they repair their vehicles on the road, drivers use twigs, coconut fronds and other natural elements found on the roadside to "warn" other motorists.

“This means that they do not have the EWDs as required by law,” Mancol said.

After the series of info dissemination, LTO enforcers will be scanning the roads to monitor the compliance of the EWD Memorandum Circular dated December 13, 2011.

The EWD is a mandatory accessory for all motor vehicles. Non-compliance could penalize the owner, P500. If a motor vehicle is impounded and among the violations included is the failure to carry a pair of EWD, the release of the vehicle will be withheld until a pair of EWD can be presented to the adjudicating officer.
