DILG calls on barangay folks to attend barangay assembly
CATBALOGAN CITY, Samar, March 27 (PIA) -- The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) urges everyone to attend the synchronized barangay assembly on March 31 in their own barangays.
Ivo Allan Ty of DILG said the people should actively participate to be informed on what the barangay officials are doing.
“The usual concerns regarding poor attendance and failure of barangay officials to present the financial report still mar the barangay assemblies,” said Ty.
Catbalogan City Barangay 5 Chairman Renante Aquino admitted that a handful only attends the assembly but the financial report is given surely.
“We solicit suggestions from the few that attend the assembly,” said Aquino.
For Barangay Chairman Oliver Abuyen, their barangay assembly was held in early January.
“I asked permission from Sir Jose Obrero (MLGOO) to hold the barangay assembly in January because we were unable to hold one in October,” Abuyen said.
Like Aquino, only some 20 heads attended the barangay assembly.
“I am slowly addressing the different concerns like street lights and drainage that costs the barangay a significant amount, these I announced to them in the assembly,” said Abuyen.
Based on Memorandum Circular Number 2012-29 of the DILG, March 31 is set as the Barangay Assembly Day for the first semester of Calendar Year 2012. (PIA 8-Samar)
