Besao vendors, peddlers must register before doing business

BESAO, Mt. Province, Aug.10 (PIA) -- Traveling vendors and peddlers with motor vehicles including ambulant vendors, agents, salespersons, scrap buyers and dealers are mandated to register at the mayor’s office before doing business in the municipality.

This is aimed to help solve complaints of residents on vendors, peddlers who deceive or mislead customers to buy supposedly good or quality products only to find out later that they are useless or unserviceable or there's discrepancy in the weight of goods.

There are also others who represent themselves as official agents of quality or branded goods enticing poor and honest people to order company products only to disappear with their hard-earned money used as advance payment.

Under Municipal Ordinance No. 20,s.2011 passed by the Sangguniang Bayan presided by vice mayor Harry Baliaga, vendors, peddlers, agents, salespersons from outside the municipality to do business here should to register in the Mayor’s Office which requires the provincial peddler’s license or official documents showing the kind of business, name of proprietor or company, address of proprietor or company, Tax Identification Number, and names of accompanying workers or assistants/agents or representatives.

It also requires vendors, peddlers who have no provincial peddler’s license to acquire a municipal clearance or certification from the municipality before they can do business in the locality aside from the registration.

The registration is good for 30 days and is renewable.

Exempted from this ordinance are delivery trucks, vans, jeepneys and other motor vehicles delivering goods or merchandize ordered or purchased by their customers from this municipality.

It also exempts delivery vans and other motor vehicles delivering balikbayan boxes and other personal properties.

Penalties will be imposed to any vendor, peddler, agent, salesperson, scrap buyer and dealer who fail to register but transacting business in town.(JDP/JBS-PIA CAR, Mt. Province)
