Team effort brings success, says Army commander
TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte, July 3 (PIA) -- Success of operations against rebels in East Visayas is due to the partnership of the army and the police, according to an army official here.
Brig. Gen. Gerardo Layug, Commander of the Eighth Infantry Division (8th ID) of the Philippine Army in a statement said the partnership of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) led to the success of operations against the New People’s Army (NPA) in the region.
Layug lauded the joint elements of the Army’s 52nd Infantry Battalion and the PNP on the arrest of two suspected members of the NPA in a recent operation against the rebels in Daram, Samar.
“The success of the operation showed the close partnership of the AFP and the PNP in ensuring peace and security as maintained in the region, ”Layug said.
The arrest of the suspects yielded one Ingram rifle, one magazine loaded 23 live ammunitions, a cal.45 pistol with four magazines loaded with 28 live ammunitions, two hand grenades, an improvised explosion device, a 15-meter firing wire, a blasting cap and valuable subversive documents with high intelligence value.
Lt. Col. Arvin Lagamon, 8th ID spokesperson said that the two suspected rebels were brought to Catbalogan City where appropriate charges were filed against the two. (EOT/AJC-PIA8)
