DUMAGUETE CITY, July 14 (PIA) -- More academic institutions in Dumaguete City, which is known as "University Town," are earning accreditations from the Federation of Accrediting Agencies of the Philippines (FAAP).

St. Paul University Dumaguete (SPUD) has announced that its high school department was granted the Level II re-accredited status from the FAAP.

This after FAAP accreditors found the high school department to have satisfactorily fulfilled the requirements and standards set by the Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (PAASCU).

PAASCU is a private, accrediting body officially recognized by the Department of Education as an accrediting agency. It is composed of various private educational institutions that stamp other private schools with a quality standard attained in line with their academic programs.

SPUD Director for External Affairs Raffy Duhaylungsod said the university’s grade school department, which is a PAASCU Level I accredited program, is currently preparing for another round of PAASCU accreditation in December this year.

“Various courses in the college level are also Level III accredited by the PAASCU now,” said Duhaylungsod.

In April this year, Silliman University announced that 14 of its academic programs received a Level 4 status, the highest accreditation distinction, from two independent private accrediting groups.

Level 4 accreditation was given to SU's seven graduate degrees from the Association of Christian Schools, Colleges and Universities-Accrediting Agency Inc., while PAASCU granted the same accreditation to seven undergraduate programs. (RMN/PIA Negros Oriental)
