Amazing race highlights celebration of International Humanitarian Law Month 2012 in Abra
BANGUED, Abra, AUg. 20 (PIA) -- This year’s International Humanitarian Law Month celebration in the province was highlighted by the 'amazing race' during the Youth Camp 2012 organized by the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) – Abra Chapter.
Mr. James Manuel Laygo, officer-in-charge of the PRC-Abra Chapter said the 'amazing race' is dubbed as the Ultimate Sirmata Challenge where students of various secondary and tertiary schools in the province competed in essay writing, quiz bee, poster making, extemporaneous speech and the amazing race.
The amazing race is a sort of a relay where the contestants run to a certain point within the area designated by the organizers.
The participant cannot move to the next point unless given the clue after he would have answered the trivia question asked.
According to Laygo, the Youth Camp conducted here August 10 – 12, is a leadership development program of the PRC to enhance the participation of the youth in community involvement especially in times of emergencies. The amazing race is a strategy for the youth to develop their skills in various aspects, both, physical, social and intellectual.
The youth camp also doubled as an information campaign in celebration of the International Humanitarian Law Month this August.
Winners in the amazing race were Holy Cross School of Lagangilang as champion ; Data Center College of the Philippines of Bangued- first runner-up and Bernos High School of Mudeng, La Paz, second run up.
Other participants to the Youth Camp and the race were Abra State Institute of Science and Technology, Abra Valley Colleges, Bernos High School, Abra High School, Rosalio Eduarte National High School, Holy Cross School, and Divine Word College of Bangued.
