Abra town focuses on social and infra projects for 1Q

BUCAY, Abra, April 21 (PIA) -- Social and infrastructure projects highlighted the administration’s performance for the first quarter of this year.

Mayor Victorino B. Baroña, Jr. reported in his monthly radio program that the projects include the implementation of the Kapit-bisig Laban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services(KALAHI-CIDSS), where the local government unit (LGU) gave its P2.9 million counterpart fund to the P9 million provided by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

The LGU also provided an office space for the nine-man staff from the DSWD-CAR, who assists the communities in the implementation of the KALAHI-CIDSS project in the area.

According to Baroña, Bucay is among the 19 LGUs which are partner-beneficiaries of the National Anti-Poverty Commission (NAPC).

Relative to this, the LGU has formed the Local Poverty Action Team (LPAT), which assists the local planners. The local planners are composed of LGU representatives and three non-government organizations (NGOs) in the municipality namely the Bucay Movement for Change, the Bucay Jeepney Drivers and Operators Association, and the Association of 4Ps Beneficiaries.

Priority projects identified to be funded by the NAPC are the construction and rehabilitation of existing irrigation systems in the different barangays of the town.

Meanwhile, the on-going infrastructure projects of the LGU are the flood control project in the barangays of Poblacion and Banglolao, which are funded by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), and the road opening of Quimloong to Abang, which is funded by Senator Antonio Trillanes, III.

Baroña had already submitted their accomplishment report on the implementation of the flood control project which they modified into a four-meter wide barangay road on top of the flood control system which was highly appreciated by the NDRRMC officials in Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City.

The mayor expressed hope that the road opening project in Quimloong to Abang which is being implemented by the Department of Public Works and Highways - Abra Engineering District will be finished before the barangay fiesta of Quimloong next month.

Meanwhile, the construction of the new municipal building of Bucay is already about 90 percent finished. (MTBB/PIA-Abra)
