Bacolod City village heads undergo risk reduction training
BACOLOD CITY, July 10 (PIA) -- Town chiefs and their kagawads who chair the Disaster Management Committee undergo a one-day training on community based disaster risk reduction and management.
The Bacolod City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council organized and conducted the training of the participants in two batches at the Middletown Inn in Bacolod City.
CDRRMO Action Officer Jose Maria Vargas briefed the participants on their primary roles and functions as chairpersons of their respective Barangay DRRM committees.
Vargas also discussed how to properly utilize the 5 percent Barangay DRRM Fund (calamity fund), conducted a workshop on Participatory Capacity and Vulnerability Analysis (PCVA) thru hazard and resource mapping, and a film showing on Climate Change and Community Disaster Preparedness.
Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia, Chairperson of Bacolod City Disaster Risk Reduction & Management Council (BCDRRMC), supported these training programs to strengthen the capacity of the local implementers down to the grassroots level to become effective and efficient disaster management front liners, pursuant to the provisions of Republic Act 10121 or the Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction & Management Act of 2010.
Bacolod Vice Mayor Thaddy Sayson and Liga ng mga Barangay president and Councilor Mona Dia Jardin challenged the barangay leaders to do their part in preparing their respective communities to be more ready and resilient to any forms of disasters. (JCM/EAD-PIA6/CDRRM Negros Occidental)
