BACOLOD CITY, May 2 (PIA6) -- Local police here launched last month Project Katawhayan sa Dalan (Peace and Order on the Road), which yielded 334 unregistered motorcycles.

Project Katawhayan sa Dalan was launched to prevent the increasing use of motorcycles by suspects or criminals in their illegal activities.

PSInsp. Lester Leada, chief of Operations and Plans of the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) told members of the City Peace and Order Council during its regular meeting that these motorcycles with no official receipt and certificate of registration are currently impounded at the BCPO, under the supervision of the Traffic Management Unit.

As of April 22, through the project, 603 citations were issued to motorcycle users and drivers for not wearing helmets.

“As part of the concept, stickers were issued to motorcycle owners indicating that the motorcycles have the necessary registration papers,” Leada said.

Leada added that these stickers are visibly posted on the motorcycles, and owners were given motor vehicle emergency card with the different emergency contact numbers of police stations.

In case of emergencies, those motorcycle owners can readily contact the nearest police station in the area, Leada added.

The BCPO was able to issue 714 stickers to motorcycle owners.

In violation of City Ordinance No. 469, or motorcycle with passengers below 7 years old, 74 tickets were issued. (JCM/EAD-PIA6/Negros Occidental)
