ROXAS CITY, Capiz, July 23 (PIA) -- More than 70 member-consumers of Capiz Electric Cooperative (Capelco) in Barangay Amaga in Sigma town attended the kick-off activity of a series of anti-pilferage information campaign last July 18.

The information drive dubbed “Gabay Linya” is a joint effort of the electric cooperative and the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP).

Capelco public information officer Kenneth Tipon said the campaign covers barangays in the province being serviced by NGCP transmission lines which is about 100 kms.

Aside from Brgy. Amaga, other barangays scheduled for the information drive are Mi-anay, also in Sigma; Bolo and Lawaan, Roxas City; and Tuburan in Maayon.

“We also discussed pilferage of electricity and theft of power on NGCP towers and Capelco distribution lines to discourage any unlawful acts which result to system loss,” said Tipon who along with Capelco technical supervisor Benchito Dumol and right of way officer Nathaniel Degala compose the cooperative’s team of speakers for the campaign.

Three NGCP safety officers also join their Capelco counterparts during the activity which will continue until next month.

Recently, Capelco was cited by the National Electrification Administration for its valuable contribution to the national government’s ongoing countryside energization initiatives through the flagship Sitio Electrification Project (SEP) and Barangay Line Enhancement Program (BLEP).

The cooperative has energized about 88 percent of the sitios in Capiz as of December 2011 putting Capelco on track with Pres. Benigno S. Aquino’s target to energize sitios. (JSC/AAL-PIA6 Capiz)
