Region 8 signs manifesto of support for PDEA
Highlight of National Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Week
Tacloban City (November 21) -- The Closing Ceremony for this year's National Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Week was highlighted with the signing of a Manifesto of Support by the officers and members of the Region 8 Administrators League.
This activity underscores the need for all the various sectors of the society and the community to unite together in the fight against the drug menace.
The signing was part of the Rakrakan Kontra Droga, a dance-rock contest which was held on November 20, 2009 at the Eastern Visayas State University.
A number of activities have been scheduled by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in Region 8 in connection with the celebration of the National Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Week on November 14 to 21.
In line with this year's theme, "Kilos, Pamayanan! Droga'y Patulog na Labanan," various activities like a series of information drive were conducted in selected schools and in the barangays in order to heighten the people's awareness on the menace called illegal drugs and for the community to support the campaign against illegal drugs.
The 3rd week of November of every year pursuant to Presidential Proclamation 214 has been declared Drug abuse Prevention and Control Week. The event was observed from November 9-15, with this year's theme anchored on "Do Drugs Control Your Life", Your Life, Your Community, No Place for Drugs".
In issuing the Proclamation in 2001, President Arroyo said that there is a felt need to increase the awareness and understanding of the adverse effects of drug abuse not only in the health of people but also on the social, economic and even political development of the country. (PIA 8) [top]
