3rd annual indigenous peoples' visual art exhibit held in Tagum City
Davao City (21 November) -- Kalinawa Art Foundation, a social enterprise raising awareness and appreciation of the visual arts of the Indigenous Peoples of the Philippines, is mounting its 3rd Annual Indigenous Peoples' Visual Art Exhibit in Tagum City from November 23 to November 30, 2009 following the city's annual Pakarajan and City Parochial Festival with long-time curator of the Foundation's exhibitions Mr. Jun Jamero, expect this event to cause a buzz in Tagum City art scene.
Entitled "Lumadnong Dalit 2009 – Year 3." The exhibition will include activities such as an artists' interaction, lecture on Curating by Nestor Horfilla, an artist, researcher, theater director, scriptwriter, and teacher. He is a major force in the propagation of cultural work as part of development in the regions. He has been a regular resource person and consultant of the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) Outreach Program for Community Theater from 1987 to the present. Ronald Tamfalan, a T'boli artist, will also conduct some workshops.
Hosting partners for the 3rd Annual Indigenous Peoples' Visual Art Exhibit in Tagum City are the City Government of Tagum, the City of Tagum Tourism Council under First Lady Alma L. Uy, the Department of Education Tagum Division and Kreative Union of Today's Artists and Writers (KUNTAW)
Kreative Union Of Today's Artists And Writers (KUNTAW) is a non-government organization but a civic society concerning the development of the community by empowering the elements of arts from visual, performing, film and other disciplines that would help individuals to become active partner for progress.
All Indigenous Peoples' visual artists are invited to register their works for the Exhibition, competition and sale. Registration begins at the Trade Center, Quezon Street, Tagum City on November 23 from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm and continues on November 24 from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm.
The opening ceremony for the exhibit is scheduled for Thursday, November 26 at 5:00 pm. The actual exhibition will be open to the public daily from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm from November 26 through Saturday November 29. A total of P36, 000 in prizes will be divided among four categories and presented at the Awarding Ceremony on November 28, at 5:00 pm. The categories are: Traditional from pieces based on Indigenous traditional knowledge and/or materials; Youth, an open category for artists 18 years old and younger; Open Two Dimensional, any two-dimensional medium excluding photography, which can include but is not limited to paintings, drawings, tapestries and etchings; and Open Three Dimensional, any three-dimensional medium, including but not limited to sculpture, pottery and terracotta.
