Vigan City (28 July) -- The Parole and Probation Administration (PPA) had strengthened its Volunteer Probation Aide (VPA) program to maximize its role in community involvement for prevention of crime, the treatment of offenders and the criminal justice administration in the province.
This developed when the agency organized the SADIRI - VPA Association as well as conducted several activities in the barangays.
Officer in Charge (OIC) Corazon Dagdag of the newly- created PPA - Vigan City said that her office and the selected VPA volunteers joined together as partners in pursuing the rehabilitation of its clients, who were crime offenders under probation period.
"Recently, we conducted lectures to our clients in the province about home management to include the advantages of food preservation like demonstrating the making of boneless bangus and the bagoong making," she said.
"We also initiated a massive tree planting activities with the parolees in the riverbanks in Barangay Beddeng Laud, Vigan City in coordination with the environment agency," she added.
In support to the efficient implementation of VPA program, training on managing volunteers was held last May 12 in Makati City. A 3-day VPA basic therapeutic community modality training seminar was also held in San Fernando City, La Union last April 22-24, 2009.
According to Dagdag, these activities were held in consonance with the 33rd anniversary foundation of the PPA.
It was recalled that the PPA was created by virtue of Presidential Decree No. 968, also known as Adult Probation Law of 1976, signed into Law by the President Ferdinand E. Marcos on July 24, 1976, which aimed to rehab all qualified crime offenders to become good citizen of the society. The PPA is an attached agency of the Department of Justice (DOJ).
