Mayor congratulates Vigan's child chess wizard

Vigan City (27 July) -- Vigan City government headed by Mayor Eva Marie Singson – Medina congratulated a child chess wizard that brought an honor to this heritage city during the recently concluded international chess tournament.
John Daniel Alibin Lemi, 8, won two silver medals and a bronze medal in different categories of the 10th ASEAN + Age – group Chess Championship held in Hui, Vietnam last June 6 – 15, 2009.
Mayor Medina said that the achievement of Lemi draws an inspiration to the children in the city of Vigan especially those chess tournament fanatics.
Lemi, a Grade 3 pupil from San Julian Norte, Vigan City, started playing chess at the age of 5 and won numerous chess competitions here and other provinces including Metro Manila.
Last June 2008, he won 3 silver medals in standard, rapid and blitz category at 9th ASEAN + Age Group Chess Federation in Danang, Vietnam. (PIA Ilocos Sur) [top]
