Guv receives new Army Commander for Southern Negros

Camp Leon Kilat, Tanjay City (14 March) -- Gov. Emilio C Macias II received Col. Cesar B. Yano, the Commander of 302 Infantry Brigade, Philippine Army at his office on March 3, 2008.

This is a customary gesture by military commanders giving courtesy to local government units chiefs as head of the counter-insurgency campaigns in their respective areas.

The 302nd Infantry Brigade has successfully assisted the local government units of Bohol and Cebu for seven years by providing physical and psychological security in the communities, allowing unhampered delivery of basic services especially to the remote places of these provinces.

In the discussion, Macias welcomed the military unit as he highlighted the ongoing development projects in his province.

Col. Yano briefed the Governor on his program of action which aimed at touching base with the locals, especially in the remote communities, to educate them about the nature of the 40-year old insurgency in the country and its bad effects to the economy.

A similar program will be conducted at the municipal level to further educate opinion makers and key communicators on the same subject matter.

Col. Yano said the ongoing efforts of the local governments in leading the fight against poverty will have lasting beneficial effects in terms of people's well-being.

He assured the Governor that during his watch, the discipline of his troops is non-negotiable, saying that anybody from his command who commits any breach of discipline will be sanctioned. Similarly, respect for human rights is paramount in every soldier's undertaking. (PR)
