RP celebrates climate change consciousness week
Dipolog City (20 November) -- As the world grapples with ill-effects of global warming, Malacaņang has declared Nov. 19-25 as "Global Warming and Climate Change Consciousness Week."
The Office of the Presidential Adviser on Global Warming and Climate Change (OPACC) in cooperation with the Presidential Task Force on Climate Change (PTFCC) has been tasked to lead the weeklong celebration.
With this, all line agencies, government-owned and controlled corporations and local government units are enjoined to participate in the observance by conducting activities that can help drum up public awareness on global warming and climate change such video showing, symposia, hanging of streamers/banners and others.
As observed, global warming causes many adverse situations like droughts and floods. When the temperature rises, water evaporates faster and condenses to form clouds, which in turn fall as rain. But rains resulting from global warning come with typhoons and floods.
Drought, on the other hand, may result in famine as the crops die and food production decreases.
Two devastating typhoons, Ondoy and Pepeng, recently hit the country leaving billions of pesos in damages to lives and properties especially in Luzon. (PIA-ZN) [top]
