Cauayan City, Isabela City (25 September) -- The Department of Education (DepEd) and the City Government of Cauayan led this year's Alay-Lakad 2009, a yearly activity aimed at raising funds for educational needs of out-of-school youths in the country.

Multi-sectoral groups from this city joined the activity which started at the City Hall at 4:00 o'clock in the morning and ended at the Isabela State University (ISU) - Cauayan City campus.

Sangguniang Panglungsod Jose Abad, committee on education chairman, said the proceeds of the Alay-Lakad will be utilized for the school needs of out-of-school youths in the city.

"This activity is conducted yearly and the needy out-of-school youths benefited from this activity of the city," SP Abad said.

City and DepEd officials and employees including the private sectors in the city participated in the parade.

Slogan and poster-making contests were also conducted at the university campus after the parade.

The theme for this year's Alay-Lakad is "Lakad Kabataan, Ituloy ang Kaunlaran." (PIA Isabela) [top]
