Zambo Norte press club to spearhead campus journalism workshop

By Franklin P. Gumapon

Dipolog City (July 12) -- True to its commitment of helping hone the skills of budding campus writers in journalistic writing, the Zamboanga del Norte Press Club, Inc. has formally launched on Saturday its annual campus journalism seminar for this school year 2006-2007.

The first salvo of the campus journalism workshop will be in Siocon town on July 15-16 with high school students from the municipalities of Sibuco, Sirawai, Siocon and Baliguian as participants. This will be followed by Labason and Liloy on July 22-23 and 29-30, respectively.

On August 5-6, the group will descend to Sindangan town with the Sindangan National Agricultural School as the venue. High school students from Manukan and Jose Dalman may join the workshop at Ponot Elementary School in Jose Dalman town on August 12-13.

The next venue of the seminar will be in Katipunan on August 19-20 for students from this town and its neighboring Roxas municipality.

For students from the first district of the province, they may join either in Polanco town on August 26-27 or in Dapitan City on September 9-10.

The campus journalism seminar for Dipolog City students will be on September 2-3 at the main campus of the Zamboanga del Norte National High School.

Having found the campus journalism seminar project of the press club laudable, government and private organizations have thrown full support to the project like the provincial government of Zamboanga del Norte, Department of Education, TVI Resource Development Philippines, Inc. and the Negros Navigation Company. A memorandum of agreement defining the roles or involvement of these agencies in this project was also signed during a launching ceremony of the annual campus journalism seminar last Saturday at Club Jucarde this city.
