Troops arrest two rebels in Zambo Norte
Dipolog City (8 February) -- Combined military and police operatives arrested two high-ranking communist rebels in Zamboanga del Norte recently.
The arrested New People's Army (NPA) leaders were identified as Maria Luisa Purchay alias Byul and Allen Solis alias Totoh.
Purchay is the secretary of the North-Central Mindanao Regional Party Committee (NCMRPC) who carries a reward of P2.6 million for her capture. Solis, on the other hand, is a medical officer of the Western Mindanao Regional Party Committee (WMRPC). (+)
"No return, no exchange" policy explained

Zamboanga City (8 February) -- Does a consumer really have the right to return and exchange a defective or poor-quality product even after the store's seven-day period has lapsed? What does the law say about sellers' return policies?
The answer is YES. Republic Act 7394, or the Consumer Act of the Philippines, entitles consumers the right and means to redress in order to get due satisfaction from their purchases. It places the responsibility on the supplier, seller or retailer to act on demands made by consumers who have bought defective goods. (+)
DTI extends business name registration discount

Zamboanga City (8 February) -- The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has extended the 50% discount on business name registration fee for another six months, or up to 30 June 2010. This is to encourage employment-generating activities after recent natural calamities resulted to losses in jobs and livelihood according to DTI-9 Regional Director Nazrullah Manzur.
Department Administrative Order (09-11) which took effect on 01 January 2010, kept the original registration and business name renewal for sole proprietorships at P150. However, the P15-fee for documentary stamp still applies. (+)
