Camp Kalaw, Monkayo, Compostela Valley Province (20 November) -- Soldiers of the 25th Infantry Battalion, 10ID turned over books to the pupils of San Jose Elementary School, Barangay San Jose, Monkayo, CVP during their PTCA meeting yesterday.
The books were donated by Asia Foundation and Operation Blessing Foundation Incorporated (OBFI) and were received by Editha Escasinas, Head Teacher III of the said elementary school.
The activity conveyed the importance of learning through reading to the pupils and how knowledge can equip us to achieve our dreams in life. The books included bibles to cater to the spiritual needs of the local populace. Proper care of the books was also discussed during the open forum.
Through the guidance of Lt. Colonel Gilbert F Saret, Commanding Officer of the 25th IB, 10ID, PA, the soldiers planned a program that will help students to achieve better education. Together with the different LGUs, line government agencies, NGOs, and POs, the 25th IB came up with a program that caters to the need of the students. The lack of educational materials specifically books, urged the 25thIB to create the Barangay Library project. Saret invited friends, acquaintances and other organizations to join this cause. After the donations started to arrive, 25th IB determined specific schools that were in dire need of books and presented the books as donations.
The 25IB Research Team for Peace and Development are at present helping the Local Government of Compostela Valley Province in the conduct of Rapid Need Assessment for projects that will alleviate the living condition of the local populace and ultimately bring development in the area. (GSC/PA) [top]
