Marines join DedEd observance of National Health Maintenance Drive in Basilan
Isabela City, Basilan (15 July) -- The 1st Philippine Marine Brigade (1MBde) in Basilan joined the Department of Education (DepEd) Isabela City Schools Division Office in the conduct of a joint two days National Schools Health Maintenance Drive in Basilan on July 9-10, with this year's theme: "Better health care for improved learning".
This DepEd activity also called "Universal Medical and Dental Check-up Program for pre-schoolers, public elementary and high schools" was spearheaded by the Isabela City Schools Division Health and Nutrition Section under its OIC Nurse, Sheila Maria D. Santos.
The activity was coordinated with the 1st MBde led by MSg Juancho Delos Reyes ; 1306th Phil Navy Dental Dispensary representatives led by military dental officer Capt Jose Escorpico who solely performed the tooth extraction and the Marine Battalion Landing Team 1 (MBLT1) under LtC Fernando Gomez PN(M) who directed his Civil Military Operation (CMO) NCO Cpl Rowell Cagoyong to join and provide necessary assistance particularly on security at the venues of the activities.
A total of about 116 high school students, elementary and pre-schoolers have benefited from the tooth extraction aside from 807 who have undergone medical and dental check-ups conducted by the city school nurses held at Brgy Begang National High School (Jul 9) and at Latuan Elementary School, Brgy Baluno (Jul 10), both under the jurisdiction of Isabela City this province.
Meanwhile in its continued AFP campaign against terrorist group activities, PsyOps Team of 4th Civil Relations Group, CRSAFP led by MSg Jose Uyeg PA together with MSg Delos Reyes and Cpl Cagoyong further took-up the opportunity during the two days dental outreach and distributed copies/pieces of assorted anti-terrorism materials such as: Barbangsa comics; anti-Improvised Explosive Device (IED) posters and leaflets; anti-ASG Babala handbills and rubber wrist bands to students, teachers and parents at said areas, hoping to encourage them to support the government authorities in the fight against terrorism in Basilan.
Mrs Norma Taruc and Mr Yolbrando Bacolod, principals of Begang High School and Latuan Elementary School respectively, expressed their profound gratitude and lauded the military and school nurses' joint efforts in extending free dental services to their students and pupils. (4CRG/PIA9-BST) [top]
