Tacloban City embraces "1000 cities, 1000 lives" campaign
Tacloban City (April 7) -- Tacloban City under the leadership of Mayor Alfred Romualdez is giving its full support to the 2010 World Health Day celebration's "1000 cities, 1000 lives" campaign.
The City has also registered and has already been confirmed as member of the campaign. Dr. Gloria Fabrigas, the City's focal person for the commemoration has downloaded video presentations on Tacloban City Now and Then.
The City of Tacloban has scheduled various health related activities for the five-day celebration.
On April 7, a Blood Letting activity will be conducted at the Balyuan Convention Center from 8:00 o'clock to 12:00 o'clock noon. In the afternoon, Barangayan ni Mayor, reaching the community through delivery of basic health, social and livelihood services to the Taclobanons, will be conducted at Barangay 83-A, Burayan, San Jose.
On April 8, Barangayan ni Mayor will be conducted at Barangay 95-A Caibaan, from 1:00 to 4:00 o'clock in the afternoon.
On April 9, an I Love Tacloban cum Araw ng Kagitingan Clean Up Drive will be conducted at 6:00 ? 9:00 o'clock in the morning. Assembly area is Plaza Rizal.
On April 10, a Taebo Jam will be conducted at the Astrodome from 5:30 to 7:00 o'clock in the morning. This is participated by health enthusiasts.
Finally, on April 11, Wolrd Health Day Tacloban Fitness Day Fun Run is scheduled at 5:30 in the morning from the Robinson's Place to Magsaysay Boulevard.
The "1000 cities, 1000 lives" campaign aims to draw worldwide attention to the theme of urbanization and health and engage governments, international organizations, businesses and civil society in a shared effort to put health at the heart of urban policy.
The 1000 cities 1000 lives campaign encourages cities and individuals to work across multiple agencies with a wide range of partners to have the most lasting impact on health. The global goal is for 1000 cities to participate in the World Health Day campaign. (PIA 8) [top]
