Gov. Padaca mum on political plans

Ilagan, Isabela (25 November) -- Isabela Governor Maria Gracia Cielo M. Padaca has yet to decide either to finish her last term as governor of the province, or run as representative in the second district of Isabela or as senator under the Liberal Party (LP) of Senator Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III.

Governor Padaca, the province's LP stalwart, did not make any pronouncement when LP Presidential bet Noynoy Aquino visited the province last week.

Senator Aquino was here trying to make himself popular among Isabelinos, who is aiming to become the next president of the country under the Liberal Party.

Noynoy did not endorse Governor Padaca for re-election but instead said that he is not forcing Padaca to run for reelection as the province's chief executive. He gave Governor Padaca the chance to decide on her own, what is in her heart and mind, to aim for the 2010 elections.

"I am not forcing Governor Padaca for an elective position she would run for, instead she has to decide what in her heart and mind would be of best interest either for her fellow Isabelinos or for all Filipinos," Senator Noynoy said.

Padaca said Isabelinos will soon know her decision whether to run for re-election, as congressman or senator in the coming days.

Governor Padaca is still balancing her decision and Isabelinos will know her decision until the last day of filing of Certificates of Candidacy (COCs) which is until December 1, 2009.

Comelec has scheduled November 20 to December 1 as the period of filing of certificates of candidacy for national and local candidates.

The Comelec has made an early schedule of filing of certificates of candidacy for candidates to be able to have ample time to prepare the official ballots for the May 2010 elections.

The computerized election exercise next year is a first-time to experience by Filipino voters using a Precinct Count Optical Scan (PCOS) machine which will count votes automatically and transfer election results through electronic means of transmission. (PIA Isabela) [top]
