'Defeat the enemy', Army commander tells 5ID soldiers
Camp UPI, GAMU, Isabela (November 18) -- The Philippine Army commander ordered the soldiers of the 5th Infantry Division to'defeat the enemy come June 2010, referring to the communist rebels in the country.
Lieutenant General Delfin Bangit made this order after he has installed Brigadier General Rommel Gomez as the new commander of 5ID replacing Major General Nestor Ochoa.
Ochoa will be promoted to three star general and will head the National Development Support Command in Camp Aguinaldo.
Gen. Bangit literally does not mean to kill or sweep all enemies of the state when he said'defeat the enemy' but instead, he explained that defeating the enemy by bringing lasting peace in all areas of the country through peaceful means.
He said'peace can be achieved not by war alone but encouraging our brothers who lost their paths to come to the fold of the law and live a normal life'.
Gen Bangit said the mission of the Armed Forces of the Philippines of bringing total lasting peace and tranquility in the country and guardians of the people and territory are foreseen to be achieved in the future.
Bangit said that one sign that AFP has nearly achieved its mission is the big budget that is appropriated for the purchase of engineering equipment instead of war materials or equipments.
Bangit is confident that with the support of all officers and elements of 5ID, the camp's contribution would be a big help to the entire mission of the AFP. (PIA Isabela) [top]
