By Ninfa B Quirante

Tacloban City (29 April) -- After the scorching sun yesterday, April 28, 2009 which sunburned most athletes and dancers in the grand opening, the weather today, partly cloudy has favored most athletes battling it out at the Leyte Sports Development Center.

In a call to Pag-Asa, Tacloban City, OIC Mario Penaranda told PIA-Samar that although the low pressure area has moved to 80 km northeast of Virac, Catanduanes a cloudy forecast has been hoisted here.

However, Penaranda said that when there is a thunderstorm that usually take place later in the day, rains can not be avoided as cumulu-nimbus cloud become heavy and surely falls.

This type of weather is being felt by the ten thousand athletes from 17 regions battling at the 2009 Palarong Pambansa here in Tacloban City.

President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo was here yesterday to grace the opening where the sun, then, shone at its brightest.

Presently, the morning games were played under a cloudy sky as the sun hid in the cloud. The sun though got warmer towards midday.

Penaranda told PIA that this type of weather will be experienced by Eastern Visayas this week. (PIA-Samar) [top]
