NMIS reports more melamine-free canned meat products

Iloilo City (21 October) -- Five canned processed meat products from China, including two products from the popular brand Ma Ling tested negative from melamine, reported the National Meat Inspection Services (NMIS) of the Department of Agriculture.

Jane Bacayo, OIC Executive Director of the NMIS reported to Agriculture Secretary Arthur Yap that samples of five assorted processed canned products under four popular Chinese brands that had been tested by the NMIS were not contaminated with the toxic ingredient.

The samples identified submitted for testing are the Pork Luncheon Meat and Vienna Sausage products of Ma Ling, Pork Luncheon Meat Products under the brands of Gulong and Narcissus and the ham product of the Great Wall brand.

In a Memorandum to Secretary Yap dated October 17, Bacayo said that "results of the Laboratory Tests showed that these products are negative of melamine."

Bacayo said samples of these products had been submitted for testing to the Philippine Institute of Pure and Applied Chemistry (PIPAC) last October 8. PIPAC is attached to the Ateneo de Manila University. (PIA) [top]
