Bugasong celebrates Padurugyaw festival

San Jose, Antique (17 January) -- Along with the series of January festivities in the country, the Municipality of Bugasong will also celebrate its "Padurugyaw Festival that will commence on January 14, and end on the eighteenth day, this year.

Padurugyaw, which came from the two kinaray-a words "Paduruya" kag "Maghugyaw" 2007, bearing its theme: "Pang-agda para sa kauswagan" is both a cultural and religious celebration honored to the miraculous saint Senior Sto. Niño de Negrito, which claimed to be the legendary patron of Bugasong due to its appearance at times of danger situation in the past.

The day series will be a bunch of heavy activities hosted by the sponsoring agencies and will highlight the "Mardi Gras" and Ati-ati tribe competition that will perform around the designated allies of the town, followed by the torch parade of the different images of Sr. Sto. Nino and the cultural presentation featuring how the people of Bugasong threatened by the "Moro" pirates and how the black little boy (believed to be the Santo Nino) saved and drove away the destructors in Sitio Jatay-jatay where the image was first believed to have appeared.

On the other hand, last January 29, 2005, the precious image of Sr. Sto. Niño became the subject of interest when the culprits stole its hands and head, and until now the search continues, while the people of bugasong believed that the retrieval of the missing parts would be thru its own miraculous way.

Moreover, Bugasong town is also showcasing the intricate, fine woven "patadyong" thru stage presentations and stage decorations which is originally made in Barangay Bagtason.

So come on! Let's enjoy! Experience the fun merriment and exaltation to senior Sto. Niño!. Dali ron kita! Magpadurugya kag maghugyaw sa karsada. Viva! Sr. Sto Nino! (MIO-Bugasong/PIA) [top]
